Here is to the very merry gentlemen who live down my road. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes; some tall some short.
Some thin and some fat. Mostly dressed smartly they get into their automobiles and chase up the road, always in a hurry to
get somewhere or other. However me as I no longer drive walk , or cadge a lift. You do get a whole new perspective on life.
You see the trees towering above you , the birds on the river Welland all after something to eat.
Sometimes you take your life in your own 2 hands or should I say feet as you nip across the road trying to avoid getting run over.
Although the gentlemen are merry , you never hear them laughing in public. They much prefer to do it in private.
Now back to what I was saying , what they are like. As my now sadly departed Mother used to say "There are Nought as queer
as folk".
I suppose it takes all sorts of gentlemen to make a society.
Some of them are happily married, others are sadly either widowed or divorced.
They seem to me as if they are a very secret society ( no not the Chinese sort !!!).
They very rarely go in to each others homes, but occasionally just say hello , at least some do !!!
Generally they live next to one another rather well. Perhaps respecting each others right to be here.
Generally they travel in their travel in their big shiny automobiles even though they don''t always travel very far.
Perhaps they feel safer that way.
However, some like me no longer drive but walk , or cadge a lift with family or friends . If only they would talk to
each other , I mean really talk about their lives perhaps if they were say going shopping they could share a car.
Maybe they would become good friends as well as good neighbours.
Well here is to the society we have created. Are we really gentlemen at all . Perhaps dear reader you could enlighten
me a little bit.
Here is to the Ladies in our lives , if we have one.
I wonder if the Merry gentlemen are merry at all.
That would be very sad.
